About RCM

This station, located at Camp Muir, is one of 3 high elevation stations on Mt. Rainier. It serves along with RCS and STAR to help constrain event depths at Mt. Rainier which is a critical part of volcano monitoring.

Field engineers typically visit this station via helicopter due to the large amount of gear necessary to work on the station. But every so often a crew will make the hike up to the station from the Paradise Visitors Center, which is a +9 mile round trip with almost 5,000ft elevation gain along the way.

This station sends real time data from the mountain via a multi-point radio hop, first to Storm King Mountain and then to station PUPY, where the data is then transmited via hardended fiber optic communications lines to PNSN.
