ETS Event of Fall 2025
Blog for ETS of Fall 2025
This BLOG-like page is being generated in a form similar to previous ETS ones to document and provide information on a Northern Washington - Southern Vancouver Island (NW-VI) ETS. The UW has no special experiments in the field for this ETS; however other groups may have interesting observations that can be reported here if authorized. We will be tracking and reporting on this ETS using data only from the real-time regional networks (UW, UO, CN, PB, CA) and/or information reported to us by others.

NEWS (latest is at the bottom):
Sep 29, 2025 - It looks as if a standard northern Washington-Southern Vancouver Island ETS has been going for almost two weeks. This one seems to have started in the South, near Olympia and after a few days of minor tremor it moved up-dip and started slowly progressing northward. Thus far this seems very similar to ETS events of the period 2024 - 2015. The previous ETS in this zone started on Aug 6, 2024 and this one seems to have started on Sep 16, 2025. So, it is about one month earlier than the average but well within the time intervals of previous events. If it continues as previous ones have, it should pass under Victoria in about another week.
However, in the past few months there have been significant bursts of tremor both in the southern Puget Sound down to the Columbia river (Jul. 26 - Aug 17) and in Southern Vancouver Island (Aug 14 - 23). Each of these may have been a small ETS. I don’t have easy access to enough geodetic data (and I am not a geodesist) so I can’t comment on the nature of any slip during these periods if any. However, these “slip” periods may have been enough to limit the current activity from covering as large an area as some previous ETSes did.
I will try to show a map-time progression after a few more days of activity.
