The PNSN is one of several Regional Seismic Networks that operate within a confederation of such networks, the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS). The ANSS is managed and funded by the US Geological Survey. ANSS provides coordination between the regional networks and provides both financial support and procedural guidelines and standards. The PNSN has been designated a "tier 1 regional center" by the ANSS, responsible for earthquake monitoring in the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon). The PNW Regional Advisory Committee, (RAC), comprised of representatives of State and local government agencies, engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders provides policy advice to PNSN management at past annual meetings.
